Asian Garlic Ginger Mushrooms (Japanese Karaage)

ingredients:

  • 500 g oyster mushrooms

 

Marinade:

  • 4-5 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1-2 garlic cloves
  • Ginger, about the size of a garlic clove
  • Optional: 1 tbsp sake

 

Panier:

  • 75 g wheat flour
  • 75 g cornstarch (alternatively 150 g pure cornmeal)

 

Preparation:

  1. Chop all the ingredients for the marinade and stir.
  2. Place mushrooms in the marinade for about 30 minutes.
  3. Mix the wheat flour and corn starch. Toss marinated mushrooms in it.
  4. Fry the mushrooms in a pan with highly heatable oil until golden brown.
  5. Serve with rice, teriyaki sauce and optional Asian salad.

 

Tip: Fry the mushrooms in portions for an extra crunch and drain on kitchen paper after frying.
